Joseph Norman Morris

Joseph Norman Morris, 78, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:20 P.M., Saturday, June 15, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Joe was a retired co-owner of Bianco Drug Store in Du Quoin for over 50 years. He was a registered pharmacist for 54 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin and had been an administrative board member of the church and was a former church trustee. He was the Du Quoin Business Association Young Man of the Year in 1958 and was Man of the Year in 1989. He was a 28 year member of the board of directors of the Du Quoin National Bank. Joe had also served on the Perry County Housing Authority board.. He was president of the R.A.E. Organization Hospital Equipment. Joe was a member of the Du Quoin Elks Lodge, Du Quoin Eagles Lodge, Du Quoin Masonic Lodge, Shrine Ainad Temple of E. St. Louis, Du Quoin Lions Club. He was also a member of Du Quoin VFW Post 513 and Du Quoin American Legion Post 647. Joe was a US Army veteran of W.W, II serving as a medic with the 55th. Army Div.
He was born April 8, 1924 at Sunfield, IL the son of Lester Norman and Fleta (Terry) Morris.
He married Mary Lou Hofstetter on August 22, 1948 at Du Quoin, IL
Joe will be missed by his wife Mary Lou of Du Quoin, children- Yvonne Spencer and husband Craig of Du Quoin, Jeannie Burke and husband John of Du Quoin, Joseph N. Morris Jr. (Jay) and wife Vicki of St. Louis, MO, grandchildren- Alex Sauer, Max Burke, Holly Burke, Tony Burke, Sally Burke and Stacey Burke, sisters- Helen Pierce, Pat Wilks, Frances Bird and Marge Schenk all of Du Quoin, brother- Gene Morris of Du Quoin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Carol Marie.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Carl Mesiti and Rev. Jerry Dunn officiating.
Friends called from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 10 A.M. until time of service at the church on Wednesday.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin VFW Post 513.
Friends may make memorials to the First United Methodist Church Youth or the Crusaders Sunday School Class.
